Instead of destroying the old Riley Park Rec Centre, have the Farmers Market there year round! It would free up parking and the Market could grow to accommodate more vendors. Wouldn't it be awesome to have an Inner City neighborhood venue to hold the Market year round!PL Jensen wrote:

Why destroy it asd? Do you have violent tendencies? There happens to be a daycare in the building. The building is in excellent condition, has many attractive features and can provide space for many activities. With the demolition of the ice rink more greenspace can complement the building. The building was built with love and care and has been the place of many memories. Destroying it not only destroys the building but the memories it may evoke. This is one of the few cmmunity assets paid for and owned by the community for all of us to enjoy. Why tear down what little we have? What are your plans for the property once it is down? Let it return to nature or would you like to see a parking lot and skateboard facility?Ken wrote:

Hi I have to agree tearing it down does seem like a completely waste. It might not be a new building but where land it at a premium in this city, I'm sure there are people keen on seeing it being demolished so that developers can move in and make a killing. There are so many different needs for spaces why not repurpose it so that the community can benefit. It would be great to return it to nature but I don't see that happening with QE park so close by. Keep the building repurpose it.Jinder wrote:

Demolish and create green space for all to play in. I don't want my children in such an old building for health reasons. Most parents would agree. This area needs more green space. The fields are always booked at hillcrest, the dog park is used for dogs and there needs to be more playgrounds and outdoors spots to enjoy. There's lots of indoor spaces at hillcrest. the farmer's market is interesting, but not until you realize that having it indoors is more of a problem for clean up and sanitation.J wrote:

I'm not sure why you would need more green space when QE Park is one block away... It would be fantastic to have the Farmers Market there -- for residents nearby, once Summer starts it's a 5km trek to Trout Lake or Kits markets. However, it might be tricky, since Trout Lake and Kits already run on Saturday and Sunday respectively. So vendors would have to split themselves between markets. Still, Vancouver Farmers Markets have been experimenting with new venues (like the Kerrisdale Market at East Boulevard and 37th, at the same time as the Trout Lake Market). Maybe a Sunday Market here?Kieran wrote:
