Perimeter Trail at Queen Elizabeth Park?

Perimeter Trail at Queen Elizabeth Park?

How does a 3 km soft-packed perimeter trail around Queen Elizabeth Park sound to you?

This request has now been formally submitted to the Park Board based on a swell of interest in from the community supporting this initiative.

The path would essentially be cut into the perimeter of the park boundary along the streets of Ontario, 37th, Kersland, Cambie & Midlothian with some option to weave in and out of some beautiful trees. There is a cement path around most of the park now, but it disappears at the corner of Cambie and Midlothian.

Possible planning challenges may include:

  • the portion along Ontario and 37th where the perimeter gets close to the disc golf course
  • making sure the grade is suitable for the hill on 37th
  • crossing at four car access points
  • some low retaining walls needed at points along Kersland

All in all, and from a brisk amateur's walk in and around the park boundaries, our crack team thinks that this effort would not be too significant in the great scheme of things. If you would like to throw some support behind this idea, please let us know here (prior to Dec 31, 2010)  and we'll continue to provide this information further up the chain of command.

This a great idea. I've tried running this route before, but it's not level where there's no sidewalk and hard to do. Plus I prefer running on a trail as opposed to a concrete sidewalk whenever possible. I'd love to see a trail around Queen E.

YES! This would be amazing. I'm just starting to run and this is most certainly something I can get behind.

A 3k trail is a great idea. I like to come to the park with my dogs but it's not easy to find a good place to really go for a longer walk. Often the grass is long so you get quite wet. The park is great but at the moment it does not feel as if it is for anybody wanting to go for a real walk.

Great idea - I use the 2.7 km walk around the perimeter of the Langara Golf Course and it's fabulous - well used, safe, a bit of a hill which makes it more interesting and a bit of cardio for walking... Something like that at QE park would be fabulous!

This is great. I had been thinking about this for some time. Great place to have school cross country runs as well as a low impact running option. Happy to help in any way.
